Imagine you have car. Now imagine you don’t know how to drive it. The car is totally useless.

Now compare this to your iPad. You have your iPad but no manual or training. The result is a $500 useless gadget. You could have gotten something else for that!

Download the iPad Manual

By now the iPad manual is available for download from iBooks. While that’s great news it’s still a standard manual: text, a couple pictures and that’s it! Nothing more. Will that work for you? Maybe. A while back ago I discovered a better alterative: an iPad video course.

Manuals are all pretty much the same: read it, look at some of the pictures and do it. For most people that just doesn’t work. And I think it’s no longer the best way to go in this day and age of video! Videos can show literally show you how to do something! Want to install an app? Here’s how you do it. Want to change your display settings? Here’s how you do it.

A manual can only show you a couple pictures and give you some explanation. Not exactly helping right? And if you look at the index and see the thing has like a thousand pages your first thought is to close it as fast as possible. I know I did.

Look, I’m a practical guy. Always have been. That’s why I work construction! I want to know how to do something and then do it, not read 10 pages before knowing how to use an iPad feature. It has to be brief, quick and useful. Now I found this video course on the iPad a couple weeks ago which does just that: you get short quick videos which show you how to do something you want to do. How I learned about my iPad without an iPad manual

If you got the iPad without any previous Apple experience then you’re probably looking for the manual. I was! It wasn’t in the box! It was sitting on a disc, but it was very limited. That wasn’t quite the iPad manual you were expecting right?

I had the same issue. And I was frustrated about it! My kids had to explain stuff to me. I mean, come on! I was sick and tired of it but I really wanted to learn how to use my Ipad.

After a bit of surfing hoping to find anything that could help me a friend showed me this iPad manual video training. It’s a course of about 100 videos (all 2-5 minutes) which show you how to use your iPad. I thought it was great so I got the course immediately. In the end I didn’t watch all the videos, but enough to help me do what I wanted to do.

So without an iPad manual I can now work pretty well with my iPad. It’s quite simple really, but you just need someone to tell you how to do stuff right?

Oh and by the way, I had a couple specific questions about my iPad which weren’t covered in the course, so I emailed the guy who created it. This guy got back to me with answers in less than an hour! He even created a couple videos just for me. I was amazed. I thought service like that was extinct honestly.

Why Apple didn’t give you an iPad manual

For many buyers of the iPad it was some surprise: the iPad hardly had any kind of manual! Did Apple forget to provide an iPad manual? Nope, they didn’t. An unfortunately that didn’t make stuff easier.

Apple forgot the iPad manual?

No, they didn’t. Apple thought the iPad was such an easy device and so self-explanatory that it didn’t need a manual. That may have been true for the true Apple die-hards, but not for the people who decided to buy an iPad without any previous Apple experience.

I had a lot of questions when I got my iPad: where is this feature? How can I do that? Why is the settings menu over there and not right there? How can I install new apps? Yeah, you guessed it: I wasn’t an experienced Apple user! I’m guessing you’re neither or you wouldn’t be here right now.

Anyway, I started browsing online and found a few (low quality) youtube videos. They answered a few questions, but the quality was often so horrible that I couldn’t make out what the guy was doing.

Then a friend of mine who also got the iPad showed me a couple videos of an iPad videocourse (yeah, seriously!) which were perfect: high quality, very clear and even I could do it!

“How many videos does that guy have?” I asked her. “well, about a 100”. I was like “what…?? You expect me to watch a 100 vids on how to use my iPad??”. She laughed. “No, just watch the videos you need and skip the rest”.

In the end I ended up watching about 60 or so of the videos and I now I can use my iPad the way I want to be able to use it.

Anyway, it worked for me and I’m sure these videos will work for you too. If you’re frustrated about your iPad and if you’ve been looking for a good iPad manual for ages then you can stop now: you’ve found the iPad manual.

Figuring out your iPad

Figuring out how to do the daily stuff with your iPad can be a lot of work. I knew it was for me! You can find some stuff online, download the official iPad manual or watch a couple videos, but nothing really works.
